If you think the beach is only fun in the summer then you are missing out!
We love Beach Vibes all year round and when you visit in the winter, it’s less crowded so you can pick your perfect spot or be first in the queue for all the fun things to do. Our beaches are about more than just pebbles! With miles of beachfront to explore from Brighton Marina to Hove Lagoon you’ll discover places to stay, things to do, lots to see as well as restaurants, bars and shops.
So don’t wait until summer for beach vibes, read on and discover what you could see, eat & do during a winter trip to the city-by-the-sea...
Stay
For uninterrupted seaviews we love the art deco White Horses hotel on the coast of Rottingdean. The hotel has direct access to the Undercliff Walk which takes you to Brighton Marina, alternatively you can stay at the marina itself which is home to the sylish Malmaison.
Food & Drink
Our beachfront is home to a delicious variety of eateries, some of them at places you wouldn't necessarily have thought of! For example you may think Sea Lanes is just for swimming but they also have some amazing foodie options such as Fika (image above). However if the sea-air has you craving seafood then it has to be Riddle & Finns although if you’re not sure what you want then Shelter Hall indoor food market has plenty of options. For laid-back drinks with stunning seaviews try OHSO Social or The Seahorse. For live music or a drag act with your meal then head to Brighton Music Hall alternatively if you're in Hove then you'll love the seaviews from the terrace at Rockwater.
Seaside Shopping
Within the old fisherman's arches you will now find a variety of shops & galleries, perfect for finding gifts for friends & families or a memento of your winter break. Brighton Photography sells stunning photographs of Brighton and Sussex taken by local photographers. There is more artwork to be found at Atelier Beside the Sea and you may even be inspired to sign up to one of their workshops. If you fancy a cuppa with a difference then you will love exploring the array of flavours at Bird & Blend or you may prefer a souvenir from the West Pier Centre.
Get Active
The sea is not just for viewing as you can dive into a variety of watersports all along the beachfront. At Brighton Marina you'll find Brighton Boating who offer a number of ways to get out to sea although our favourite is the powerboat ride! Brighton Watersports is on the central part of the beach, hire a kayak and enjoy seaviews from the sea. If you're staying in Hove then visit Lagoon Watersports and enjoy a wakeboard taster session. If you're not quite ready for getting in the sea (or just think it's too cold!) then you can swim in Sea Lanes heated outdoor pool. Alternatively if you prefer land-based thrills but still want to see the sea then hire a bike from Brighton Beach Bikes and cycle along the Undercliff. There are beach sports at Yellowave as well as the only sand on Brighton beach! Families will love the crazy golf course at Jungle Rumble or you could go for an adrenline-pumping ride on the Brighton Zip.
Relaxation
For those who prefer a more relaxing trip to the seaside then you'll be pleased to hear there are plenty of beachfront attractions where you can chill out rather than dive in. If you want to soak up the seaviews then head to the iconic Brighton Palace Pier and relax in a deckchair. Alternatively turn the world on its head at the Upside Down House or learn about the city's maritime history at the Brighton Fishing Museum. The Rampion Visitor Centre has fun, interactive exhibits about wind farms and how they work or you can get a close-up view on a Brighton Wind Farm Tour. If you really need a break from it all then book a relaxing session at Beach Box Spa although will you be brave enough for the traditional post-sauna cold water plunge?
