WSO: Summer Classical Favourites

About

Soloist: Yi Yang Chen (piano) A concert of summer fizz - the sunburst optimism of Mendelssohn's brilliant overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream and two classic Beethoven works. This concert sees the return of the hugely popular Sussex International Piano Competition winner Yi Yang Chen as guest soloist. He plays Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto with its wide expressive range taking the piano concerto away from its classical roots and into the romantic era. The Intermezzo from Delius' opera Fennimore & Gerda - is considered to be an 'orchestral opera' - voluptuous and engaging in its instrumental texture. The 2024/25 season concludes with Beethoven's mighty Eighth Symphony with its powerful rhythmic propulsion and high spirits. PROGRAMME Mendelssohn Overture 'A Midsummer night's dream" Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor Delius "Fennimore & Gerda" - Intermezzo Beethoven Symphony No. 8 in F major
