DISCnet Induction

About

Please join us on Tuesday 18 March, for a warm welcome to the DISCnet family! This event is a great opportunity to meet your peers, connect with the team, and explore the exciting field of data science.

You will receive an introduction to our data science training courses and learn about the various opportunities for industrial placements - all while enjoying plenty of coffee and pastries. Well work in small groups to dive into discussions about what data science entails, its real-world applications, the ethics of AI, and its role in sustainable development.

Additionally, well discuss your ideas for activities during your DISCnet PhD. Whether you're interested in joining hackathons, organising an interdisciplinary seminar series, or running a journal club, we encourage you to bring innovative and creative suggestions. Think broadly and out-of-the-box before you arrive!

The induction day will take place in the Student Centre, Room Woodland 5, located to the north of the campus on Refectory Road.

If you're arriving from Falmer train station, walk up to Library Square on campus, then steer right onto Arts Path. Continue north until Arts Path joins Refectory Road, and you'll find the Student Centre on the right. We will be in Room Woodland 5 on the ground floor.

Well provide lunch and dinner, and arrange accommodation in Brighton city centre on Tuesday night for those who require it (except for University of Sussex students). Please refer to the frequently asked questions below for further information, or contact Susanne Bell, DISCnet CDT Manager, ats.c.bell@sussex.ac.uk if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 18 March!
