Beryl Cook: A Private View

About

Step inside the world of Beryl Cook, one of Britain's most beloved painters, in this captivating new play, written, performed, and painted by Kara Wilson. Kara brings the late, great artist to life by portraying Beryl painting in her studio. This is a rare glimpse into the mind behind the bold, humorous, and exuberant artworks that have captured hearts worldwide. While Beryl's paintings are instantly recognisable, little is known about the private woman behind them -until now. This intimate production, created in collaboration with Beryl's son, John Cook, unveils a genuinely unique artist's wit, warmth, and creativity. At the end of the performance, the audience can purchase the painting created live on stage - a one-of-a-kind keepsake from an unforgettable evening. After a sell-out premiere at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Beryl Cook: A Private View continues Kara Wilson's acclaimed series of plays about painters. The plays have previously been performed in galleries, auction houses, and theatres across the UK, Poland, and New York.
