Today we welcome a guest post from Alfie Beer at The Green Door Store who is here to give us the insider's guide to the upcoming Homegrown Festival...
In Brighton we’ve got the sea, and we’ve also got the scene - we’d like to invite you to come and enjoy the vibrant grassroots music culture of Brighton, by joining us at Homegrown Festival on 12th April. Split across eight venues, there are over 60 bands and artists on the line-up, all of which were either created or nurtured in this wonderful city of ours. We’re so proud of the rich sonic tapestry of this city, from fresh new bands at the beginning of their journey’s, to seasoned touring professionals- Homegrown Festival is a celebration of this, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Last year we launched the festival to a great response: tickets sold out and the buzz throughout all the venues was palpable. The sense of community and togetherness was beautiful and this year it’s only going to be bigger and better with even more venues and bands. Joining last year’s hosts (Green Door Store, Hope & Ruin, Prince Albert, Folklore Rooms, The Pipeline, and Rossi Bar) is the city’s iconic LGBTQIA+ venue, Revenge, and the city’s newest seafront venue, Daltons, which has been made possible through being awarded Arts Council funding.
Topping the eclectic and diverse mix of sounds on the line-up are two of the city’s finest recent exports, Arxx and HotWax. Arxx spent last year touring extensively, including slots at major festivals including Reading and Leeds as well as Glastonbury. Their energetic live show and queer power pop sound is not one to be missed. Despite having only just reached their 20s, HotWax have released their debut LP and have toured around the United States with fellow Sussex born rock behemoths Royal Blood - the sky is the limit for this exciting trio. It’s going to be so special to have both of these starlets back on home soil. Then there’s going to be something on this line-up for everyone! Into your avant left-field folk? Check out The New Eves. For big doomy chunky riffs, Black Groove are your band. Glasshouse Red Spider Mite and Van Zon are set to bring the goosebumps with their emotional and brooding soundscapes. Need a boogie? Cowz and AK/DK will get you moving! Mosh to Wimp, Prom, PussyLiquor and Aku who bring punk and hardcore to the lineup. Then there’s indie, pop, soul, shoegaze, alternative, pop-punk, psychedelia and more on display across the 60+ bands playing!
Feeling as excited as we are? Here’s some handy tips for the day…
