This autumn we want you to create your own #BrightonWishlist and to help inspire you we will be sharing wishlists from a variety of residents, each with their own reasons for loving this quirky city we all love to work in, live in or visit.

Today Mister Joe Black tells us what is on his #BrightonWishlist. In addition to being an alumni if Ru Paul's Drag Race Joe Black is a Vaudeville Villain, Cabaret Reprobate, Musician, Singer & Song Writer.

Here’s my #BrightonWishlist…

Eating at Kenny’s Rock & Soul Café

If people go there, they’re very likely to see me. Anywhere with a framed picture of Nina Simone looking over you as you eat is good in my book.

Feeling smug in Snoopers Paradise

I get a bit of a thrill in there. I don’t know pop music, but I like particular parts of history so I get a smug satisfaction from wandering around and saying things like ‘What a Lovely mid-century unit that is’. When I was 17 I went to Brighton for the day and spotted a Taxidermy badger in Snoopers Paradise. I wanted it so badly but it was really expensive, so I saved up over the following months and got someone to drive me from Portsmouth to buy it but it had GONE!

Wandering around the Booth Museum

What a wonderous place.

Evenings at the Theatre Royal

Not only because I’m performing Club Catacysm there on Sunday 20th November, but because it’s a glorious venue.

Finding special things in Beyond Retro

I’m wearing a suit from there right now. I once bought a Dior suit for £20 and an Alexander McQueen scarf for £2.

Playing folk instruments in the Hobgoblin Music Shop

They’re so nice in there. I go in and ask ‘Do you mind if I play this instrument I don’t know how to play?’ and they say ‘Of course – here are the mallets for it.’

Watching shows at Spiegeltent

Brighton Fringe is my favourite time of year, especially Spiegeltent.

Exploring Brighton Museum & Art Gallery

One of my dresses is in there as part of the ‘Queer of the Pier’ exhibition.

Discovering sheet music in Jubilee Library

I hadn’t been for a very long time and forgot the power & joy a library can bring. It turns out they have sheet music. I found 3 penny opera and old German cabaret annotations The staff were so kind and helped me as I had no idea how to use the photocopier. I just knew that I would need coins.

Thanks Mister Joe Black!
