No this isn’t a very early festive post! We’re not talking about the jolly deliverer of presents, we’re talking about the stunning destination of Santa Monica!
This month you’ll feel LA vibes across the city as Santa Monica has come to Brighton, in fact, the two cities are signing a Friendship City Agreement so we decided to take a look at what the destinations have in common…
Piers
These seaside cities are both home to iconic piers and both piers feature fairground rides, arcades, shops, bars and a restaurant. Santa Monica Pier also has an aquarium but as the SEA LIFE Brighton is right next door to the Brighton Palace Pier we think that’s close enough to count!
City Villages
Brighton has lots of different areas to explore or ‘City Villages’ such as The Lanes, North Laine, Hove, Kemptown, Brighton Marina, London Road and Portlandia. Did you know that Santa Monica features eight distinctive neighbourhoods? There’s Downtown, Main Street, Mid-City, Montana Avenue, Ocean Park Boulevard, Pico Boulevard, Ocean Avenue and Wilshire Boulvard.
Street Art
Both cities are home to creatives and free-thinkers and this is reflected in the abundance of Street Art you’ll see around every corner. Santa Monica offers a self-guided tour of some of the most popular murals and in Brighton you can book a tour with artist, Req, who will point out some of the different techniques used. To celebrate our Friendship Agreement, Ruben Rojas, will produce an exclusive mural on Brighton Palace Pier.
Sustainabilty
Both destinations are known for their long-standing commitment to sustainability. Brighton & Hove was the first location to with the Gold Sustainable Food Place Award and Santa Monica is the first to achieve Platinum level certification under the LEED for Cities program.
Local Libations
Brighton is home to several local producers including Unbarred which can be bought in local shops, bars & pubs or from their own brewery and taproom. Across the pond you’ll find Santa Monica Brew Works who also have their own brewery and taproom plus both companies produce beers inspired by their home towns and both have bold, bright, colourful branding. Cheers to that!
Outdoor Yoga
Both cities are ideal for a wellness break and not just because we all need a healthy dose of Vitamin Sea from time-to-time. Santa Monica & Brighton both offer the opportunity to experience yoga in the great outdoors either on the beach in the Californian sunshine or under the trees of Stanmer Park it’s a lovely way to relax and unwind.
There are Santa Monica takeovers happening at a variety of places across the city throughout July, you can find our more at: www.SantaMonicaLovesBrighton.com
