Brighton has never been “normal.” Our residents, independent quirky shops and unusual restaurants ensure we stand out from the crowd. Prepare to shake things up and discover something new on your visit to this diverse, bohemian city.

First stop is your hotel, Hotel Pelirocco is Brighton’s original rock n’ roll boutique hotel, with 19 individual rooms to choose from, ranging from Dollywould a nod to the country legend or the tropical paradise room with all sorts in between, you’ll be sure to stay somewhere as unique as you.

We love the Pelirocco because:

  • The location, you don’t usually find such an eccentric hotel in a Regency crescent and so close to all the action.
  • The range of rooms is exquisite, as individual as you are.
  • They offer the best add-ons to make your stay super special from a massage to love hampers.
  • The bar alone is worth a visit, their cocktails are legendary!

Now you’ve settled in, it’s time to head out for something to eat, book a table at Tlaloc to experience authentic Mexican cuisine using fresh ingredients, be sure to grab a Mezca or tequila cocktail while there. Head back to the hotel, go to a bar or do some people watching along the seafront.

Day One

Awake refreshed and enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel, before heading to the original party palace of George IV, the Royal Pavilion. This is not your average old property, with the visual style of India and China leading to the most bonkers palace.

Don’t miss Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, home to dynamic and innovative galleries including fashion & style, 20th century art & design and fine art.

Once you’ve immersed yourself in Brighton’s bonkers past it’s time to dine out, head to the seafront and enjoy dinner at Murmur, this part of the seafront is often buzzing with fire eaters and live bands in the evening, perfect to enjoy while you experience delicious plates.

Head out to a show, if you want headliners, we have them, but if you fancy going off the beaten path and hearing live music that you’ve never heard of, you’re in the right place, with grassroots venues all over the city, here are a few of our faves:

The Old Market – A long standing Brighton favourite, showcasing new music with a diverse programme of events and artists.

The Electric Arcade - The Electric Arcade is a brand-new live theatre, comedy, music, and film venue nestled on Brighton beach, just East of the Palace Pier. 

Komedia –Komedia hosts a diverse range of musicians and amazing club nights, want to listen to Power Ballads or go to the best 80’s night in the South – this is your spot!

St George’s Church – A popular choice with alternative artists thanks to its fantastic acoustics.

Head back to the hotel after a night like no other.

Day Two

Wake up in your own Pelirocco paradise and prepare for a day of going off grid.

Head to Stanmer or Lewes to enjoy a Forest Bathing event, join your guide Amanda and return to nature to connect with yourself and the earth, release, expand and reboot. The Lewes event follows the footsteps of Picasso in the Sussex home of the surrealists, definitely #nevernormal!

Don’t miss One Garden if you take the Stanmer option, a 200 year old walled garden that’s recently been restored, and was previously never open to the public. One Kitchen on the site also offers a great menu and is the perfect spot to relax and reflect.

Alternatively, if you chose the Lewes option, The Depot cinema and restaurant is definitely worth a trip, showing art house and independent films while the restaurant offers tasty dishes and drinks, we’re also big fans of their alcoholic sorbets – yum!

Head back to the city, refreshed and invigorated. After a clean-up at the hotel, it’s time for some retail therapy. Brighton has always been a magnet for independent retailers, want one of a kind clothing or a rare vinyl record? The Lanes and North Laine area have all you need.

If you need a new piercing while in the city head to Punktured, these guys are the city go-to for professional, safe piercing done right.

One of Brighton’s hidden gems is Snooper’s Paradise, a unique vintage heaven with everything from vintage clothing to hand-crafted jewellery, the Attic is also home to the most curious array of homewares and accessories you could imagine, with a strong eco aesthetic and even stronger character. 

Head back to the hotel to look at your loot and then back out to a meal at the newly opened Burnt Orange, relaxed and refined this new hotspot on the Brighton scene has already bagged many national press accolades, including The Guardian’s cocktail of the week, so you know this is going to be good. Expect small plates cooked over wood flames and well-made drinks.

Fancy a change of scene? Head to Merkaba at My Brighton hotel, dedicated to hedonism and pleasure, just watch out for the flaming Tikis, they literally set the bar alight! 

Day Three

After a refreshing night’s sleep, it’s time to get acquainted with our vibrant street art scene, and who better to show you than a resident artist? Meet REQ for the Enter Gallery Street Art Tour and get under the skin of this vibrant scene.

Brighton is famous for its free thinkers, and this is celebrated in our produce, the epitome of the Brighton spirit, Brighton Gin offer tours of their craft distillery.

Finish off your day with another local brewer, Brighton Bier. Serving at Brighton Bierhaus, order an authentic Bavarian Frankfurter finished off with sauerkraut, crispy fried onions, and a classic array of sauces to wash down your bier. Take a stroll to the beach after dinner and people watch, our residents know how to put on a show without even trying.

Day Four

Enjoy a morning at Paradox Place a collection of mind-bending optical illusions, interactive artwork, ancient and new magic tricks, and all things wonky and wonderful.

We serve afternoon tea a bit differently in Brighton, book yourself on the Regency Routemaster, a restored Routemaster bus serving a delicious afternoon tea while you coast along the coast enjoying the view, weird but definitely works.

Your last night in the city deserves treating yourself to the award-winning vegetarian food served at Terre a Terre their Better Batter halloumi dish has a cult following for good reason.

Head back to the hotel to enjoy your room for one last night.

Day Five

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before departing the city with a new spark and revived outlook, known side effects of visiting #NeverNormalBrighton!
