It’s no secret that I love food. I love eating out regularly and trying new foods and different restaurants as much as I can. One of the perks of working for VisitBrighton is that I get asked along to LOTS of restaurant openings and networking events, so I get to try the amazing and diverse, Brighton foodie scene on a regular basis.

When the pandemic hit, my role changed dramatically and my once busy “eating-out schedule” changed to home cooked meals, overnight!!

The great thing about Brighton is that we have so many talented faces behind the restaurants that we all love so much. Most of them adapted to this new way of “At Home” life and started producing take away or dine at home kits. Who’d of thought in 2020/21 we wouldn’t be eating in our favourite restaurants anymore but enjoying them at home, at our very own dining tables?!

When the newest foodie hotspot Tide opened in February, I could not wait to give it a try!

Seafood platter from Tide, Brighton

Tide is a new Seafood take away, bought to you by the team behind Lost in the Lanes! Lost in the Lanes was my pre-pandemic, go to brunch and cake spot so I knew this was going to be good.

The menu features fresh fish and locally sourced seafood combined with vibrant side dishes, salads and sauces. Think Southern American Seafood with a modern twist! I spent the day drooling over the menu but thankfully Head Chef James prepared a selection box for 2 so I could just sit back and enjoy my takeaway.

Tide offers Delivery on Uber Eats or Click and Collect. I used click and collect and arranged a time to pick up that worked best for me. A lovely large box of food was handed to me at the door. We were told it travelled well but could pop it in the oven for a few minutes to warm through if needed.  I don’t live far so by the time I got home it was still perfectly warm and ready to eat.

Time to dig in!

We had the sharing box for 2 and we had plenty of food! The box contained, Cajun Potatoes, Southern Fried Fish, King Prawns, Crispy Squid, Popcorn Mussels, Corn-on-the-Cob and Red Cabbage Slaw. Plus, a selection of dips and sauces.

The prawns were big, juicy, and so tasty! They are one of my favourite foods but normally something I would avoid ordering in a takeaway so I couldn’t believe my luck when they were cooked to perfection. I wasn’t happy I had to share them with my husband, but he also agreed that they were the best part of the meal.

The Crispy Squid was delicious and Cajun Potatoes had such a lovely kick to them that they really complimented the flavours of the fish. If I’m honest, everything was just really, really good. Even a simple Corn on the Cob had such a yummy flavour to it.

Safe to say, this was a top take away and we were very happy. Plus, no washing up – happy days!

I was so impressed with how unique the flavours were and how well it travelled. Can’t wait to have it again. Tide also caters for vegans and vegetarians and the menu is mainly gluten free so don’t wait, order now and have your weekend plans sorted – you won’t regret it!
