About

ABOUT THIS COURSE
This course is delivered by the Occupational Safety and Health Services and is intended to provide colleagues with the knowledge required to ensure that they carry out effective assessments of the risk of hazardous substances.

THE IMPORTANCE OF COSHH TRAINING
COSHH is the law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health. Colleagues can prevent or reduce exposure to hazardous substances by finding out what the health hazards are and deciding how to prevent harm to health (risk assessment). Remember that health hazards are not limited to substances labelled as 'hazardous'. Some harmful substances can be produced by the process you use, e.g., wood dust from sanding, or silica dust from tile cutting.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
Anyone who must perform COSHH risk assessments in their workplace.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course will cover:

* The definition and types of substances hazardous to health in the workplace
* The health effects of hazardous substances and their causes
* COSHH assessments and control options
* Responsibilities imposed by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
