About

Sound Affects is a night of talks about music and subcultures, how sound affects us and how music changes the world. Hearing from writers, musicians, artists, superfans, photographers, filmmakers and everyday music lovers, we dive into personal stories, esoteric bands, fan communities, punk, pop, social change and much more. It's organised and hosted by journalist and documentary filmmaker Jak Hutchcraft.

Speakers:
Aniefiok 'Neef' Ekpoudom - Writer and journalist from south London who documents the people, voices and communities of modern Britain. He has written for publications including the Guardian, GQ, Vogue and VICE. His new book, Where We Come From: Rap, Home & Hope in Modern Britain is landmark social history of British rap and grime.

Matthew Levi Stevens - Author, occultural commentator, and Enochian & Hermetic magical practitioner. From 1982, via friendships with Genesis P-Orridge and the members of Coil (through whom he also met Derek Jarman and William S. Burroughs), he was an active participant in London Occulture of the 1980s and 1990s. His published works include The Magical Universe of William S. Burroughs (Mandrake of Oxford, 2014), in collaboration with C. J. Bradbury Robinson, A Way With Words (WhollyBooks, 2013), and A Moving Target: Encounters with William Burroughs (Beat Scene Press, 2012.)
