Chamber choir The Brighton Singers will perform a programme of beautiful and emotional music for Passiontide, directed by Nicholas Houghton. The Stabat Mater, composed in 1736, is one of Pergolesi's most celebrated sacred works, achieving great popularity after the composer's death. The other two works in the concert are more modern. Four Penitential Motets are sacred pieces composed by Francis Poulenc in 1938–39. The composition of Igor Stravinsky’s Mass, published in 1948, was prompted by his discovery of some Mozart masses in a Los Angeles second-hand bookshop. All the music is really beautiful and uplifting. Enjoy interval refreshments in this lovely church.
