About this course:
This course is delivered by the Occupational Safety and Health Services and is intended as an introduction to moving and handling objects or loads by bodily force.
The importance of lifting for life training:
It is essential training for all employees who may be faced with heavy lifting. Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work, accounting for over a third of all workplace injuries. It is important to support specific local training requirements and to consider manual handling in day to day life outside of work also.
Who is this for?
This is essential training for all employees who may be faced with moving and handling objects or loads by bodily force. It is not suitable for those who are required to move people.
Learning outcomes:
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to enable you to lift, carry, push, and pull a load safely, reducing the likelihood of long-term injury. The course covers:
* Why we bother with health and safety
* What manual handling is
* The injuries that can be sustained when not following manual handling best practices
* What to consider when risk assessing a manual handling task
* Demonstration and practice of how to lift and carry a load safely

- Please note that the course is free of charge. If you wish to cancel, we require five working days' notice, otherwise there will be a cancellation fee of £50 to your department.
- If you have any specific requirements that will help you to fully participate in the session, please let us know in advance.
- If you would like to attend Lifting for Life training, but the dates are not convenient, please email the Health and Safety team to be added to a waiting list.
