Isata Kanneh-Mason plays Beethoven

About

London Philharmonic Orchestra 2024/25

Weber Overture, Der Freischütz
Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4
Dvořák Symphony No. 8
Martin Rajna conductor
Isata Kanneh-Mason piano

Strange but true: they used to call Dvořák’s Eighth his ‘English’ symphony. Yet its lilting melodies and exuberant dance rhythms could hardly be more Czech – in fact, it’s hard to think of a composer who sounds more thoroughly at home, and loving it. Pure sunshine, in other words, and a gloriously tuneful climax to a concert that begins with Weber’s spine-tingling gothic fairytale.

In between: well, you can’t have missed the buzz around Isata Kanneh-Mason, and tonight this superb young British pianist joins guest conductor Martin Rajna for Beethoven’s fourth (and most personal) piano concerto. Pure poetry.
