Causeway Chamber Orchestra - REVOLUTIONARIES

About

Join the Causeway Chamber Orchestra as we discover the lesser-played masterworks of the 'Enlightenment era.' Horsham-born Luca J. Imperiale, a historical performance scholar currently studying at the Royal College of Music, lifts his baton to lead this new and exciting orchestral venture headed by a mixture of local musicians and up and rising soloists.

Hoffmeister is now known primarily as a Viennese composer, writing many concerti and chamber works, but was perhaps best known in his time as a music publisher; rubbing shoulders with some of the most prominent artists of the classical era. He was the go-to publisher for Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Wanhal to name but a few. Hoffmeister's 4th Symphony however, is a work demonstrating some of his most charming and characterful writing; with the fourth movement portraying music of Turkish affect since this symphony's alternate title 'La Festa della Pace' celebrates the recent peace treaty between Turkey and Austria.

Though not hugely celebrated by Beethoven in later years, Beethoven's 2nd piano concerto was of great importance for his own establishment as a virtuoso pianist and composer in Vienna. The work is of a smaller scale compared to the later piano concerti and written in a most definite classical-style, but still holds some truly remarkable moments. Beethoven, himself, needs little introduction: often credited as one of the greatest composers of all-time and a leading figure in the early romantic movement, Beethoven is responsible for some of the most demanding piano, string, and orchestral repertoire from this time period. The up-and-coming piano-virtuoso, Thomas Luke, joins the CCO as our soloist for this concert.
