Salome

About

Salome was originally written by Oscar Wilde, reimagined from historical references where her title was formerly known as ‘girl’. Dehumanised in history, Wilde gives Salome an identity; agency in her decisions and requests. This classic tale will be placed in a contemporary setting where women are close to extinction. In this version Salome will be sacred – Inspired by the stories of the Vestal Virgin (3828D Roman Empire). In a surreal parallel where woman are close to extinction –Salome is almost preserved/idealised with little autonomy by rulers of this new age – Herod and his male court. Salome is multi-faceted, objectified she is, but courageous in her choices which inevitably lead to her death. Like the Vestal Virgin’s of the Roman Empire, Salome must obey and follow suit from all the men in this court/cult; in particular her step father – Herod, not distracting herself with the alluring fruit – Jokanaan. Or is her infatuation with Jokanaan completely self-sabotage? I guess you will have to find out.

Warning: This production has adult and violent content, the use of haze and some flashing lights. It is not suitable for children.

NVT Members please note: When booking, if your membership number has a prefix letter you do not need to include this - just the number and your surname. Each member is only entitled to ONE members' price ticket for their personal use per production.

Performance Sold out? We no longer offer a waiting list for sold out performances. SO – ideally book early! OR If you live close to the theatre it can be worth coming along and waiting to see if there are any returns. Of course there is no guarantee you will be lucky - but it is surprising how often returns are offered when one or more members of a party are unable to attend.
